Making a Hand Puppet
Audra Balion
Audra Balion is an interdisciplinary artist from Saskatoon. She has a BFA in Studio Art and works in both visual and performing arts, including puppetry. She has worked as a puppeteer for Wide Open Puppet Theatre, and puppet maker/trainer for Orange Jacket Kid's series "Imagination Station" at the Saskatoon Fringe Festival. Her biggest self produced puppet show was a short play called "Duet of the Mermaid and the Mime" for the FLoYD Youth Theatre Festival. "Duet" was a wordless visual narrative, which used many kinds of puppets, sound, and lyrical movement, to guide the audience through a surreal story. Her puppet designs tend to be fantastical creatures or monsters, but they are mostly friendly.

What inspired you to make this project?
Puppets are a magical sort of art form; from realistic creatures to abstract objects, it amazes me know one can convey emotion and narrative through the manipulation of inanimate objects. I'd like to share this joy, and encourage more people to partake in the craft.
